Do you know a Bay Area leader who has made a real impact in helping to prepare Bay Area communities for rising sea levels?

The San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) is proud to launch a public call for nominations for the 2025 Bay Adapt Awards. The selected visionaries will be honored at the II Rising Together Summit at the Exploratorium in San Francisco on September 15, 2025. Learn more about our 2024 Bay Adapt awardees.

Individuals all across the Bay Area are advancing groundbreaking sea level rise adaptation initiatives to shape a more sustainable future in the face of rising seas. From scientists to policymakers to community activists, our region’s visionaries are dedicated to protecting and stewarding our special shorelines and the diverse communities who live, work, and play around them. By doing so, they are advancing BCDC’s Joint Platform to protect people and the natural and built environment from rising sea levels.

We are looking to honor individuals advancing any of the following work:

  • Bringing people together and elevating communities to lead adaptation efforts
  • Broadening public understanding of climate change science and impacts
  • Advancing adaptation plans and securing funding
  • Accelerating on-the-ground adaptation projects
  • Tracking and monitoring adaptation work to guide future actions

We are hoping to recognize both longstanding and emerging Bay Area climate practitioners, scientists, community leaders, activists, policymakers, and others who are helping build more resilient shorelines and communities. Please nominate an individual in your network that you think we should honor, and tell us why.

Submit your nomination via the form below by July 1, 2025.

About Rising Together: The Bay Adapt Summit

Rising Together: The Bay Adapt Summit is a unique climate change adaptation conference, presented by BCDC, in partnership with Greenbelt Alliance and the Exploratorium.

Rising Together is an immersive and dynamic gathering that brings together climate change practitioners, scientists, activists, and others to celebrate sea level rise adaptation throughout the region and engage community members with the latest actions in our neighborhoods. From informative sessions to field trips at iconic places on the shoreline, the Bay Adapt Summit combines cutting-edge knowledge with the latest stories about what’s happening on the ground.

Just like BCDC’s Bay Adapt Joint Platform—a consensus-based strategy to protect people and the natural and built environment from rising sea levels—Rising Together is for everyone, now and into the future. Together, we’ll highlight innovative and outstanding contributions to safeguarding our bay and building a more resilient future in the face of rising seas! As part of the Bay Adapt Summit, the Rising Together Awards acknowledge individuals who have made exemplary contributions, initiatives, and innovations addressing the critical challenges posed by rising sea levels. This process is designed not only to recognize excellence, but also to inspire communities to take action against one of the most pressing challenges of our time.
